Metaphor III: With Wings Like Eagles
In a salute to the United States Air Force and a “thumbs up” for democracy, artist Jody F. Sjogren presents a patriotic montage featuring the F-15C in a stunning display of the power that has made it American’s premier air-to-air fighter. As its twin Pratt & Whitney engines propel the plane skyward, the aircraft leaves in its wake a reminder of its genesis and the lifeline of its strength: the American people, and the freedom and responsibility of democracy. Surrounded by metaphorical images of bald eagles which symbolize vigilance and courage, the Eagle confirms the need for these virtues as it ascends “with wings like eagles” (Isaiah 40:31). “Metaphor III” expresses the artist’s prayer that we – the people of the United States – will remember our heritage, fortify our national defense, and remain “one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
